Parent Councils were set up in Scotland in 2006 when the Scottish Schools Parental Involvement Act came into force. The Act gives parents/carers the right to receive information about their childrens’ education and the right to be represented and have their views expressed through the Parent Council.

The main functions of your Parent Council are to

- support the school in its work with pupils and parents

- represent the views of the parents

- promote contact and communication between the school, parents,

pupils, the community, nursery and other providers

- report to the National Parent Forum

Parent Council Meetings are held in the school at 7pm.

Parents/carers of children who attend Glassford Primary are welcome to attend in addition to Parent Council members. In the event that any items on the agenda are deemed privy to members only, then this part of the meeting would be held at the end with only parent council members present.

Parent Council members may be contacted via the school or via email, glassfordpta@googlemail.com.
